Report on our First Information Evening

Just a quick overview of what was discussed on Wednesday evening for those who couldn’t make it.

We had a great turnout from all areas of Drimnagh. Ordinary residents, business people, members of other community organisations in the area and two public representatives all were in attendance and all contributed some great ideas and highlighted some of the issues we face.

Firstly the litter black spots have been identified around the area close to certain businesses, transport links and around the hospital. Efforts will be made to coordinate with these and with the council in order to get proper waste disposal facilities and practices among patrons/employees/members of the community in these locations.

The issue of dog fouling was one that affected a lot of people. We will reach out to DCC in order to try get dog waste bins installed in key locations along with signage to remind pet owners of their responsibilities to the community as well.

The Tidy Drimnagh initiative also intends to embark on a program of flower planting at a number of locations, particularly at the “Welcome to Drimnagh” signage and at our roundabouts. We also plan to get a community clean up going on a semi-regularly basis and will be asking for volunteers to help out. We have had many individuals and groups in the area on to us to offer help so far and we are so very grateful for all the help and support thus far.

Lastly, we will be liaising with businesses and residents in order to make an effort for a “Summer clean” in which we really make an effort to ensure the place is looking its best with a lick of paint here, a power wash there and bushes cut back so they don’t impede paths for other residents.

Thanks everyone for the help and the donations on the night. After the room was paid for there was €35.55 left over which is a good start to help us get materials to get Tidy Drimnagh off our feet.

Stay tuned for information of the first community clean up.

Many thanks to those who were there on Wednesday for sharing their ideas and concerns, especially Senator Catherine Ardagh and Cllr. Paul Hand.

– Eoin
